Thanksgiving 2012

This Thanksgiving was bittersweet. We weren't able to go home to phoenix because of the crazy Black Friday events that Mike has to deal with. I was bummed not to spend the day with family, but we were fortunate enough to be invited to our friends house and spend the day with them. It was really nice and quiet and stress free.

The kids have so much fun playing together. I am really grateful to have Hunter around other kids his age and it warms my heart to see him and Max play so well together.

 Claire

The Petersen Family invited us over and we shared dinner with Natalie's sister, her boyfriend, the Jarvis Family and other family friend of Natalie and Joel's. Natalie's table looked gorgeous.
Here are some of the appetizers. Mike made shrimp brochette and dirty rice. The rice was to die for!

The girls were so interested in helping put together the salad. They are such little hostesses in the making. :)
Everything was delicious and displayed beautifully!

With the holiday season upon us, I have been reflecting on this last year and it really blows my mind to think of all the progress we've made. It has been a year of growth for all of us. When I really start to breakdown all that we've been through, I am overwhelmed with a deep sense of gratitude. I don't know where I'd be if the changes we made hadn't taken place. A year ago today, we were frantically trying to find a house, driving home to Arizona to have Thanksgiving dinner, pack up and move, celebrate our anniversary and finish up all the work with the Surprise house. (Not to mention Mike's 30th, Christmas, Max's First birthday and New Years all within a month!) It was a crazy, stressful time for us and I'm so glad for it. We have been so blessed this last year and I know moving to California was the right thing for our family.

We have a new guy around here.

He's adorable and oh so kissable.

I could stare at him all day.

Drumroll please….

That's right.
Let's hear it for the boy(s).
:)
We can't wait to meet him.

Max is ONE! What the what?!

I have a ton of catching up to do, that's for sure! We are finally getting settled after the holidays and the move.  We ended up finding a place in Pasadena, CA and I am so excited to get to know the area! We are right by the Rose Bowl and this past weekend was CRAZY around here! The Tournament of Roses Parade runs about a mile from our house and people were camping out more than 24 hours ahead of time! Pasadena is beautiful and I we have a ton of shopping right by us (can you say two story Nordstrom Rack anyone?) Dave Ramsey is yelling at me….

Anyway, Max turned one on the first and I seriously can't believe it's been a year.  I know we always say that, but truly, Max is about 9 months old in my head.  To celebrate we went to the Beach as a family and enjoyed the 80 degree weather (in January?!?!) I'll update with more pics, holiday fun and Mike's 30th Bday soon.  I promise.

We are officially leaving good 'ol AZ and heading to the sunny state of CALIFORNIA!

I'm really excited and nervous but can't wait for the adventure!

I've come to the realization that I will possibly never catch this blog up.  I have decided to post what I can, when I can of the past and just move forward otherwise.  So I may jump around a bit. I am accepting my slacker trophy with grace.

So, without further ado, I present: as many events and pictures as I have the time/patience for.

Las Vegas, NV
May 2-5, 2011

We planned a trip to Vegas with Mike's sister Melissa and her husband Paul. We found a great deal which included hotel, air and tickets to a show. The show was on my birthday so I got to choose which one we saw. LOVE. DUH!!!

Mike and I had a blast! We stayed on the old strip for most of the trip. I won the raffle at the Bayou which gave me a spin on the slot machine in there and I won $50! It was seriously the most fun I've ever had in Vegas.

We had a friend and Mike's mom help us with the kids. It was so nice to get away and have an adult trip! There are a lot more pictures and even MORE stories to go with them, but I'll spare you.  :)

Hunter's 3rd Birthday
May 8, 2011

Hunter's 3rd birthday was very low-key this year.  It landed on Mother's Day and it was hard to schedule a time to get everyone together, etc.  It was still such a fun time though! He loved the doughnut relay (previously done here). It was especially fun to see the older kids really get into it!!

He loved his 'BUZZ YIGHT-YEAR!!!" gun and his IronMan car. He is so hilarious and such a joy in our lives.  He seriously has me cracking up daily.  We love you so much, our cute little curly-headed boy!
P.S. WHERE HAS THREE YEARS GONE!?!??!?!?!??!?!??!

Mother's Day
May 8, 2011

I am spoiled rotten. Michael made this beautiful spread for me as my Mother's day breakfast.  Seriously? Seriously. He even used his mad cutting skills to create a bell pepper daggar-of-death and an awesome strawberry rose!

See the strawberry rose?!?

Jordan's Homecoming!
June 28, 2011

I have zero pictures (only video) of this event! LAME. I know pictures exist, so I'm not too worried about it.

Jordan coming home was for sure the highlight of the summer! He is awesome and I missed him so much! I'm glad we were able to catch-up before he left again for BYU. (Which I'm still totally bitter about because I don't care about your life, I care about my life and I want you here with me all the time so I can laugh and chat and share good movies with someone and have a live-in dictionary, pianist, artist, every-fact-knowin', Harry Potter fan who never leaves this state and is within 30 minutes of me so I can get my Jord fix whenever I want it, because it's all about me after all.)

Moving on.

I love you Jordan, I'm glad you're home and I'm am also glad you are moving into the next phase of your life! For real.  You are one of the sincerest people I've ever known and UT is lucky to have you!

July 4, 2011

Having Jordan home made this fourth more special than most.  It was awesome to have Lana and Family come down to join in the festivities, as well as Liz and her boyfriend's family.  We talked about our love and appreciation for this great country. Of course, no party is complete without a two-year-old's hula dance to "It's a grand ol' flag" coupled with "God Bless America" on the Ukulele. (YOU GUYS ROCKED IT BTW.)

This kid's loved the fireworks as usual. It

Mikey's 8th (no that is not a typo and I can't believe it either) Birthday
June 26 (Celebrated July 7,2011)

Mikey insisted on an Angry Birds theme this year.  He loves to play angry birds anytime we let him.  I saw the idea for the gift bags online and tried to replicate it the best I could.
Because the party was on a smaller scale I was able to personalize the bags for each kid. They loved being able to find their name.

All of the kids (+Katie who's a kid at heart) :) We got Mikey an Ice cream maker and his reaction was priceless.  He was the most excited I've ever seen him over a gift in my life.  He really wanted one! It was such an odd thing for a little boy to ask for!
We went to Jumpstreet to continue the celebration! The kids had such a fun time and it wears them out. It's a win-win if you ask me! ;)

We were so glad Lana, Janina, Katie and Cassie were in town to celebrate too! It was fun to see all of the kids run around together!

Other Misc (But couldn't be left out) Pictures:

Hunter has been obsessed with "tite's" lately.  He thinks that a tie is a tite and a fort is a "fork".  If you even say the word "night fury" (from How to Train Your Dragon) he will immediately correct you and say "no, Night Fu-dy" (Foo-dee) because that's how they say it with their accents. He'll even talk slow for you, just to make sure you get it. I have to admit, I'm pretty proud of his coordination with the pajamas, tie and underwear.  It brought a tear to my eye.

Max is sporting the golfer look in this one.
This grumpy goose is a result of his 3 year shots.  He was not expecting it and was not happy to say the least.  He didn't talk to me for about 20 minutes, which is a really, really long time for Hunter.  He used to think of the Doctor fondly because he would always get a sticker when we would go for Max, now he hears the word Doctor and says "I can't get any shots mom!" Poor guy.  Didn't even see it coming.

Do I need to say anything?

Well, there you have it for now.  I have some other events (like the Fife Reunion!!!) to catch up on too, but for now, that's all I've got.
